Thanks, Phlip, for the recipe.
I managed to get my consort to come back to events. He's the reason i
joined the SCA. He works Saturdays, at the same place for around 12
years (maybe more), and while he gets major holidays off, he has
never really had a vacation - and there's no law that says he should
- just common consideration, since his boss takes 2 non-consecutive
months off each year and leaves my consort in charge of the jewelry
shop (they make their jewelry - and my consort does a lot of the
manufacturing).
He finally figured out that he shouldn't *ask* for a Saturday off,
since the boss always has a reason why it won't work. Rather, he
figured out that he has to *tell* the boss hes' taking a Saturday off
(and he is not the sort to abuse this).
Anyway, the weather was nice at June Crown last weekend. The
temperature was in the mid 80s (it was so nice to actually be warm
for a couple days). The humidity was weird, though. It was a county
park with lovely grass that gets watered (fortunately they turn the
sprinklers off when we're camped there), so there was humidity rising
from the ground, yet my consort's coif dried out rapidly. I think he
got a little too much sun, myself.
He hasn't fought in 3 years and he was really bushed after a couple
rounds. He was drinking plenty (but not an excessive amount) of
water, but he really needed electrolytes, and most sports drinks are
reprehensible when it comes to the artificial flavor/glo-in-the-dark
quotient.
So, i may give your recipe (but *with* sugar) a try if i can get him
to another event soon. Our next Crown in October and he may wait till
then. I'm encouraging him to come to A&S Tourney at the end of July...
Anyway, other than the ubiquitous and all-pervasive Gatorade, what
commercial brands have people tried that are tolerable - not to
artificially chemically in flavor, and not too fluorescent?
