[Sca-cooks] The Bomb behind Giano's House

I never had a bomb anywhere near my home ... that I know of. When I worked in Downtown
Los Angeles, bomb threats were continually happening, especially since my library was
kitty corner from the Los Angeles Times Building to the southeast and the Criminal Courts
Building to the northeast. Due west was the Superior Court Building. One block due east
was the City Hall. Two blocks due east was Parker Center [police headquarters]. I was
also almost in the epicenter of the Rodney King riots. I had planned on working late that
day, but just before 7 pm, I developed a bad headache and decided to go home. I had taken
the bus to work that day and managed to catch the bus home at 7:10 pm. There had been [although
I wasn't aware of it] a massive protest taking place in front of Parker Center after the verdicts
came in over the Rodney King case. At 7:15 pm, the protest changed into a riot which quickly
worked its way west up 1st Street, passing the library and bus stop which I had just left.
If I had not caught the bus when I did, I would have been sitting outside in the path of
said riot. I probably would not have lived through it if I had not caught that bus. It
took me a long time to recover from the shock of how close to a horrible death I had been.

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves for
they shall never cease to be amused.
