Yeah, yeah, this isn't the Principality of the Mists, i know, i know.
I'm actually NOT making an announcement to this list, just that i'm
in the process of thinking up the competitions for next year.
I try to be seasonal... for where we actually live (NoCal), informed
by European holidays and seasons.
2004
(i was deputy and i ran the last 3 events)
- - Spring Coronet (i don't remember - i didn't run it)
- - Spring Investiture: Food Featuring Flowers
- - Fall Coronet: Sauce for Beef
- - Fall Investiture: Preserved Food of any sort (one frickin' entry!)
2005
- - Spring Coronet (camping): Savory Soup - for chilly damp days of
spring - even better if it's medicinal (usually a cold and rainy
event - and, boy howdy, was it)
- - Spring Investiture (indoors): Eatin' o' the Green - any dish
featuring fresh green herbs
- - Fall Coronet (camping): Salad Days - any kind of salad (it's
usually hot at this time of year... hah! it was around 43 F. at night)
- - Fall Investiture (indoors - usually rainy): Cuttin' the Mustard -
any recipe featuring mustard - if a sauce or prepared mustard,
include something to eat it with.
-------
So while the Kingdom Wooden Spoon will be doing 6 competitions based
on kitchen jobs (previous messages to this list), i only have 4
competitions - early April, mid-May, mid-September, mid-November, and
i've decided this time to do all Mediterranean all the time.
2006
- - Spring Coronet: Nuts ...or Dairy
- - Spring Investiture: Fruits, fresh or dried
- - Fall Coronet: Pulses (such as lentils, garbanzos, black-eyed
peas, fava beans, dried peas...)
- - Fall Investiture: Root Vegetables ...or Meat
As you can see, I'm toying with Spring being dairy (instead of nuts)
and Fall being meat (instead of root veggies)... Any opinions?
I will be posting on-line resources, since some have not been
published in book form. So, anyone who knows of on-line sources for
period Mediterranean cooking, please let me know... And do i have the
permission of those who have the info on their websites to post those
URLs to our local cooks list?
Thanks for any pointers.
