You might want to buy a copy of
The Indian Grocery Store Demystified. Also by
Linda Bladholm
The Asian Grocery Store Demystified : A food lover's guide to all the 
best ingredients
She also did one on Latin American stores.
Bruce Cost's book that Master A mentioned is
Asian Ingredients : A Guide to the Foodstuffs of China, Japan, Korea, 
Thailand and Vietnam .

All 3 are available in paperback and are good books to take
along when exploring interesting ethnic grocery stores and food markets.
