Was in Borders the other day, and while waiting for my husband to finish an appointment in Guitar Center, I picked up Michelle Lovric's "The Remedy" and got hooked. It

It's out of period, being the early 18th century, but Chapter 1 gives a vivid picture of the convent nun sweets tradition, which was still heavily rooted in the decadent sweets of the Renaissance. And each chapter is headed by a medicinal recipe of the period. Fun stuff.
