LOL!  I think that they were hoping for entries that would show people's 
pride in their state.

I would use blueberries (official state fruit) and cranberries (NJ is 
third in the U.S. incranberry production)  The state insect is the 
honeybee, so maybe a honey glaze on top, garnished with candied violets 
(the state flower.
