However, James Prescott / Thorvald Grimsson posted on this list quite  
a number of recipes using preserved lemons from Lancelot de Casteau.  
Ouverture de Cuisine. Liege: Leonard Streel, 1604.  While this is a  
bit past 1600, he does remind us "Note that Casteau's active working  
life, when he used these recipes, was prior to 1600."

I guess it is probably also strictly true that these have not been  
published in English, as i don't think Thorvald's group has finished  
its translation, however the recipes he posted can be found in this  
file in the FOOD-FRUITS section of the Florilegium:
