In addition to all the great items listed, pottery is also good, and there
is lots of nice work there.  If you are interested in particular garb or
period outdoor kitchens/ovens, you might ask your friends to take
photographs of people in that type of garb or a kitchen set up in use when
they can do so in a nonobtrusive way, and get the maker/wearer's contact
info.
