I use "readerware" for book cataloging, I can drag and click from Amazon and
many other book sellors, plus there is a audio and video catalog from the
same source with frequent free updates.
One problem I have found is that so many libraries will take your rare
books, but then only sell them at the library book sale. My local library
system will not take and shelve donations that aren't already in their
catalog. They also don't want the hassle of rare or expensive books. I
have some books from the 1700's and 1800's I will hate to have thrown away
or dumped on ebay for $1.00. Some of my friends are thinking of starting a
private library, but we are working on getting land, and the NPO stuff. We
are thinking of putting underground, since we live in Tornado Alley.....
I have seen so many books dumped by people who don't know what they are
worth. One local University library throws away books that haven't been
checked out in "X" numbers of years. I used to check their dumpster and
find all sorts of treasures, including some rare books that they obviously
didn't think should be taking up shelf space.
There is another local university library that actually keeps many of the
donated books, but they are running out of space and unless they find a
bigger building, they will not be taking many more donations. I have spent
many hours helping them catalog donations.
Be careful who you give a book to! They may not be putting it out for
others, unless it is to make a few dollars in the library booksale.....
