Where else
would they have come up with "removes"?  Never mind phrases like,
"members
have the potential to become a Knight, or a merchant or nobility". Whole
article feels like enthusiastic, if not competent, SCA influence.

Possibly. But that doesn't mean the SCA influence is current or even  
last semester. One, or more, of their advisors may be in another  
similar group now, such as Amphgard, but have been in the SCA years  
ago or even simply had a friend who was involved in the SCA in the past.
