These are great for cheesecakes and soups and whipping cream.

Mine is a Braun Hand Blender, with attachable parts, like a special cream
whipper.

Especially a soup that you have to blend and then continue coooking. You can
blend it right in the pot.

I only recently got a mixer (like a kitchen-aid). Not sure I like, but I have
been using a hand-blender for years.

My favorite thing to use it with is Bobbie Flay's sweet potato/yam soup.
