Wild rice is Zizania acquatica. Common rice is Oryza sative. Zizania fills
the niche in northern North America that Oryza fills in the more tropic
climes. You really shouldn't have much on Zizania in the Florilegium
because it is a North American plant that doesn't seem to appear in period
texts. The chief botanical differences between the two species appear to be
the conformation of the stems and how the heads of grain are produced and
are positioned on the stems.
