I think it was a McCall's cookbook that I got as a wedding present,
first time out. I still use several of the recipes from it, including
an absolutely incredible crown roast (pork) stuffed with green apples
and some wonderful seasonings.

I guess it would be this same book, though many of my recipes are and
have been ones that I inherited from my mother. She never really taught
me to cook, but I guess I kind of absorbed her skills. There are a
number of her recipes that I still cook...actually don't have real
recipes for a lot of the things, but do it the way she did...dash of
this, dab of that...

I think it was an SCA publication, "How to Cook Forsoothly." Shortly
after, I acquired a copy of "In Service to Our Middles" published by the
Midrealm cooks. The first REAL period cookbook were the photocopies
that Duke Cariadoc prepared and sold at Pennsic many years ago. I had a
real problem using this as many of the recipes were unreadable as it was
a third or fourth generation copy and had been reduced so much...four
pages to a page!
