[Sca-cooks] OOP - Cake Recipe Request?

A friend of mine is looking for a yellow cake recipe that is ... more toward the heavier, denser side (in other words, NOT light and fluffy).  I suggested pound cake, but that was a little heavier and denser than she wanted.

So ... does anyone have a cake recipe that might fit the bill?  Or even just tips on how one might be able to tell when looking at a recipe in, say, Joy of Cooking, whether a cake will turn out light and fluffy or heavier and denser?  It's needed for a mundane birthday party this Sunday.
