Thank you everyone for your quick and informative responses... I now have
something of substance to counter my father's "know-it-all-ism" <grin>.
Johnnae, I especially liked your info <grin>.
I'd "conveniently forgotten" the fact that most of the recipes we have are
from the wealthy... <sigh>. I do like some of the info about the fact that
the common folk wouldn't have eaten this dish as a rule... as my father
keeps harping back to "how the common folk would have prepared this dish."
In my e-mail, by the way, I'd only mentioned 14th century recipes as that is
the earliest ones "I" knew of <grin>.
I'll let you know what his response it to this information... I bet he still
counters that he is more correct <grin>.
