[Sca-cooks] Frying Cheese, or, Thank you Stefan...

A couple of months back, Stefan posted to this list about "frying
cheese" (Queso de/para freir) and that it was unexpectedly good. So I
picked some up at the local PriceRite (my source for all really
unusually Hispanic groceries, plus some of the cheapest meat around--
pork shoulders at .79-.49 / lb)
and we tried it. Basically, slice it up and fry it like meat, in a
little butter-- no breading or anything. Good breakfast food or late
night snack.
The Picky Child likes it. The Picky (male) Roommate likes it. We all
like it. It's easy to make and very yummy-- though it does make a wierd
squeaking noise on your teeth... We go through a small block about every
week. And it's safe for the most likely diet people in our house are on.
Thank you, Stefan.
Now, does anyone know of period references to anything like this?
