Indian panir is probably the best substitute, although I have no idea  
if you can find that any more easily. Queso Blanco (at least the  
stuff Jadwiga is probably talking about) doesn't really melt, which  
that braided Armenian string cheese with the little nigella seeds in  
it almost certainly will.
