Personally, I love sweet potatoes and don't care for white potatoes, but I'd prefer to avoid having either one at a Med/Ren feast...it's just simpler to avoid period authenticity questions.  
 
I like being considered a reputable source and it just isn't worth risking one's earned reputation over easily avoided & replaceable foodstuffs.
 
And I don't believe that the docs are trivia to those who are my targets.
