I'd assume that the idea is to get people to think about how medieval  
Europeans lived differently from us, in large part, due to a  
different repertoire of available foodstuffs. It's a good idea. Of  
course, using tomatoes in this may simply muddy the distinction if it  
wasn't food before a European put it in his piehole.

But then, I'm not sure anyone actually said that... I know I didn't.
