We had our first noticeable snowfall two weeks ago, a wet sloppy snow
that melted off the next day. But it has been otherwise an
exceptional warm September-early October. The trees just recently
shed their leaves, but they had turned a dingy brown by then -- they
are usually still golden when they fall to the first frost, which was
the second latest on record.

But Michaelmas Feast is this weekend (I know, the date is off, but
it's our tradition), and we expect permanent snow by the end of the
weekend, as usually happens 8 out of 10 years.

Of course, we live considerably more North than most of you.
