Some of this is a bit unclear to me.

Are they from India, as their name suggests? Or are they from the 
East Indies - which is now called Indonesia - as you mention?

I'm curious, in part because i am thoroughly convinced that the way 
the local ducks move influenced Balinese dance movements. (Indonesia 
was my area of study in grad. school)
