It depends on who you talk to, and sometimes even what you're
specifically talking about. In general, the SCA's cutoff is pre-17th-
century, but some kingdoms impose an early-cutoff-date for things
like A&S competition rules (which I think is silly, but hey), and
most don't enforce a late-end cutoff as long as the Renaissance is
still more or less going on. The issue is clouded by the fact that
many 17th-century books contain content (including recipes) that were
current at the tail end of the 16th century (Gervase Markham's stuff
apparently falls into this category, and so, to a lesser extent,
perhaps, does Digby).

Yes, well, if the SCA is for High Middle Ages only then I'm out of
luck, too. Luckily, no such exclusivity is maintained by most SCAdians.

I'm sorry, did you mean "does not say"? I mean, only because as far
as I can tell, it doesn't. But maybe I'm just dense ;-). From what I
can see there, though, it appears from the names listed as sources,
that these are probably pretty late, yes. It's conceivable that May's
recipes are [approximately] from before the end of the SCA's period,
as Johnnae points out.

And here I was thinking, "Delis... mmmmm... sopressata... pickled
herring... slobbergargle..."
