I attended an event within the past 3 months and volunteered my services
in the kitchen of the Feast Steward. Initially I was welcomed by other
kitchen staff and was given a few tasks, which I did willingly. However,
later in the day when the real work started, I was basically ignored and
made to feel as if I didn't belong, so I left the kitchen upset.

First, did you know the Feast Steward? Did he/she know you? Was the kitchen
staffed by a guild?

Since I don't know you, I might be a little tentative to have you in my
kitchen. Mostly because I run it comfortable, with known quantities in the
important jobs. I have seen kitchens that are only accessible by approved people.
With a door guard no less. So I do think you over reacted. Better to do
the first part gracefully and be invited back in than to think they were
actively snubbing you (even if they were) and get bent out of shape. Keep
volunteering. You will learn a great deal. And if they don't want your help, treat
it as their loss and smile.

If it is not any fun, stop doing it. Find something that is fun, and start
doing it. Life is too short not to have fun.
