hello;
warning this is a rant concerning cooking catalogues.
background:
even before the 1996 work accident and the recent 2007
head-on-collision accident, i searched auctions and
thrift stores for kitchen needs. i found many a bargin.
knives i normally purchase individually. i have never
purchased a knive set of any sort. the bread machine,
the oster blender, and the kitchenaid stand mixers
are all reconditioned/refurbished units.
the 16 qt stock pot (the blue with white speckles enamel
kind) was $3.00 usd at the chicago salvation army thrift
store.
i would be more likely to go to a restraurant supply store
than go to wally-world/china-mart, target, sears, etc.
<rant>
today i received the 'chefs the best kitchen starts here'
catalogue. this catalogue is a joke!
who would spend:
$1,069.99 usd for a 'all-clad' 14 piece stainless steel
cookware set?
$1,899.99 usd for an 'all-clad copper-core 14 piece
cookware set'?
$1,700.99 usd for 'the ultimate 32-piece wuesthof
cutlery collection'?
there are countless examples of avariciousness in the
catalogue.
what are the individuals, who do purchase from the
catalogue, thinking?
</rant>
my kitchen is a work area not a designer display stage.
a $1,899.99 usd cookware set does not make me any better
a cook. what makes me a cook is with in me; the skills
and knowledge that the lord has given unto me.
the goal is to provide a healthy meal for those who
partake at the table. the goal is not to impress anyone
with the pots and pans or cutlery set or small electric
appliances that i may happen to own.
