I'm pretty sure the author (Caroline Yeldham) is, or was, an SCA
member, too, or perhaps a recreationist who knows about us...

Yes, a search of the Florilegium shows she was on this list in 1998.  
So, I would say she knows about us. :-)

This file in the FEASTS section of the Florilegium gives an idea of  
some of the medieval cooking she has done.
