Forget about grapefruit rind, aspartame is a laboratory produced combination 
of aspartic acid and phenylalanine.  Aspartic acid was originally extracted 
from asparagus and is commonly extraced from cane and beet molasses. 
Phenylalanine is common in many complex proteins.
