I always thought the reason to keep knives out of the dishwasher was to 
avoid dinging the edges (things move around more than you think in there!) 
or drying out the wooden handle.  That, and not slicing yourself when you 
find one in an unexpected place when you're unloading the dishwasher.  :-)
