As someone mentioned some of these are coming back into style, but  
more for decoration an eating. A number of other period plants are no  
longer available commercially are available for those who want to  
grow their own. I remember various stories and mis-adventures of  
folks on this list trying to grow various items.

If you might be interested in trying to grow some of your own, this  
file in the PLANTS, HERBS AND SICES section of the Florilegium has a  
number of sources for seeds and seedlings.
