<<< You should disassemble your mixer and clean the switch. When

strange happenings when they shorted out the switch on the oven. >>>

Yes, my first thought was to disassemble your mixer (after unplugging
it) and look for shorts in the wiring and particularly in the switch.
Something like cockroaches could be the culprit. If you don't see
anything obvious than have someone good with electrical items look at
it or take it into a repair shop before the short causes a worse
problem, such as a fire. Since I don't know anything about the switch
I'm not sure how common it is or where to get a replacement, although
a web search can often turn up such things.

Does it stop running after being switched on and running okay? In
that case I'd also look for problems in any safety interlock devices
such as something meant to keep the mixer from running if something
isn't installed. The bowl? Accessory covers? I don't know if that
mixer has such items, since I don't own one and have only used one a
few times, but just a general comment from my experiences as an
electrical engineer.

On the molasses, it makes me wonder if your molasses was fermenting.
