The 2007 Early American Life Christmas issue is out.

The reason I am mentioning it is that the issue contains a number of
articles on chocolate and drinking chocolate in the colonies.

Susan McLellan Plaisted who does the cookery at Pennsbury Manor is
featured in a full page article on page 8. Pennsbury Manor's cuisine is
circa 1699 roughly.(Susan attended the Ivan Day session that several of
us did back in spring 2006.)

The articles are

CHOCOLATE FLAVORS AMERICA’S PAST by Gretchen Haertsch.
Includes numerous photos of chocolate pods, roasting beans,
information on recreating heritage chocolate.

POTS FOR CHOCOLATE by Jeanamrie Andrews
Making proper chocolate demands the proper pot. The unusual vessels our
ancestors used for chocolate brewing are now prime collectibles.

COOKING WITH CHOCOLATE
Savor the less-sweet but spicy flavor of the chocolate that Thomas
Jefferson enjoyed.

Worth checking out, even if past 1600.
