Speaking for myself, and as one of the people interested in this  
source, I don't believe you were being tested, or being asked an  
unreasonable question. This is a source that, it at least appears on  
the surface, is available in some form out there. Its original  
authorship may be in some question, but it has been linked both by  
title and some textual resemblance to the work/name of Hannah Wooley  
and various editions of the work of Gervase Markham.

At various times in the past couple of years, you've quoted from the  
source in question, and apparently asked to be given attribution  
credit by people using the text in their own research.

Given the potential for confusion between the online source that  
apparently exists and the text you've apparently been working on with  
the stated intention of publication as of a couple of years ago,  
having someone ask about the status of the published edition is not,  
I think, unreasonable.

I mean, other people do independent research, and it's common  
courtesy, except perhaps in the most cutthroat of academic settings,  
to try not to step on other people's toes or duplicate effort. But  
then people need to be able to know what that effort is at any given  
moment.
