For anyone willing to shop at QVC.com, they have a very basic FoodSaver for just under $60.00 (while supplies last).

One of the problems I've had when looking at these various seal-a-
meal units is that even within a particular brand they seem to come
in multiple price ranges with various additional features as you move
up in price. Not knowing which features would be worth it, I gave up
until I had time to do more research in the future. I seem to
remember that some units let you use larger bags than others, that
some would vacuum pack hard containers instead of just bags, perhaps
this partial vacuum that someone mentioned etc.
Any further comments on this?
