  Real easy to explain,  Hebrew, Moslem mead trade. Moslems are not allowed 
to drink of the fruit of the vine. Hebrews being ever opportunistic found a 
fast easy way to harvest honey all year round. You can not harvest Honey 
from a broken hive twice and its cheaper to do. Some one simply forgot to 
tell the to tell the Gentiles. Who got pissed and came back under cover of 
the crusades to steal the tech but went after the wrong people. So there you 
have it the crusades were caused by  an advanced technology developed for 
brewing.
