That's very interesting.  The greenish pumpkin that forms the base of the 
throat and the chest is a New World squash, identifiable by the deep ribbing 
of the stem.  And there appear to be a couple of red chili peppers below 
that, but they might also be red carrots.  It's hard to tell without the 
stem.  The ear of maize is not too surprising as this painting dates from 
1590 and was probably done in Milan, where maize was being cultivated.
