Freshwater eels are most definitely eaten in many places, including 
Europe and Asia. In fact, most of the eel served in sushi restaurants 
(unagi) is freshwater eel. The saltwater eel is called anago by the 
Japanese. The freshwater variety tends to be fattier than the sea version.

I like both varieties.
