Then he should have been approached, inquired as to whether he intended to
sound as if he considered the feast to be crap and purposely insult the
cooks or was the attitude from something else and accidentally applied to
the situation. If the former he should apologize if the latter, he should
apologies and explain the error.
I would "almost" bet that he did realize how he came across to the cooks.

Actually, it was as much the way it was said as the fact that it was said.
The attitude he conveyed was one that indicated that he felt that our food
wasn't fit to feed pigs much less humans.  He didn't say as much, but that
was the implication!
