Sigh.  Had it been most anyone else, we might have done that.  But, as I
said, his whole approach to life in the SCA is that, because he is a Duke
and a Knight, he knows everything and doesn't have to bother with simple
courtesies.  I'm quite sure he didn't realize he had delivered a major
insult...but then he probably didn't really care!  Even if he had been
informed of the situation, he would have walked away from it.  He is one of
those people who repeatedly demonstrated his total lack of disdain for other
people's feelings, for the chivalry and courtesy he as a peer was supposed
to be using in his dealings with others and even for the rules!

Again...sorry, but there really wasn't any way to rescue the situation...at
least my friend held the shoe long enough to make sure it hit the door
rather than His Grace!
