Carrageen [not sure of spelling] an Atlantic seaweed IIRC, is used as a
thickener in some recipes for soups and stews.. also in certain crafts- like
paper marbling. A google search may help also.

Subject: [Sca-cooks] Period Japanese or other oriental soup recipes

My son is seeking to make a soup with seaweed but I am not sure if
this is period. Does anyone have any period recipes?
