It's a state of mind. The food helps, but generally the rules are  
pretty flexible.

Yeah, I gather that if you're a Mandarin-speaker (i.e. mainland China  
or Taiwan) it's your Red Year, and if you're a Cantonese-speaker (such  
as in Hong-Kong, Kwangtung or parts of SE Asia), it's your Fire Year.  
The year corresponding to your astrological sign is generally assumed  
to be propitious, lucky, and a time of great opportunity.  
Unfortunately, you only get one in every twelve years.
