In my barony, the cost of the Royal Lunch is covered by my husband and I. Since I am usually the one cooking it, it is never a big deal.
This is the same basic law that keeps Baronies from using funds to purchase presentations for other Baronies. Though if the item is to be used as regalia for the Barony (or Kingdom) it is acceptable.

a business lunch. Most times the Royals are busy doing Kingdom stuff during
lunch. I think that because it is a fine line that it is easier to just not
mess with it and just have a no SCA monies toward the Royal lunch. Anyway,
the rule has been in effect since at least the late 80s/ early 90s. It also
covers subtleties that are only for the Royalty at feasts.

It's been against Corporate Policy as long as I've been a member,
actually....I don't recall any time in the past when it was allowed to use
SCA monies to benefit only a few people (as in, a separate royal luncheon).

And while breakfasts are pretty standard for most events, who prepares
them and where the money comes from is something that varies from
group to group, and at times Autocrat to Autocrat. Now you know to ask
the question, even if it was a hard lesson.

usually about 40 to 50 dollars, depending on who is Royal at the time,
and their dietary needs.
Unfortunately this tradition is now specifically against the law per
corporate finanacial policy. Tis a shame, but I guess they have their
reasons.
