Bartholomaeus Metlinger, who wrote one of the first printed books on paediatry (1472), says 
that once the front teeth of children appear, "dann so mag man inen etwas stercker kost geben/ als 
ein brot in eyner milch geweicht oder in einer fleisch prüe/ oder erbiszprü" (then one may feed 
them on somewhat more solid food, like bread soaked in milk or in meat broth or in pea broth).
