[Sca-cooks] OT OOP Amtrak Travel (was RE: OOP Bananas)

We regularly take the train from DC up to New York or Boston. This is a
situation where train ridership is steadily increasing and will continue to
do so now that the cost of gas is getting so high. We took a trip a couple
of weeks ago...We went business class because Phillip's company paid his
fare and he got mine with his frequent traveler miles. It was very
enjoyable...we took snacks along with us, easily done as we only had a 3 1/2
hour ride.

I understand that the cost of the bedroom accommodations included meals, but
as I'm not paying my way down...the American Cancer Society is...I doubt
they would pony up for this. Also, as I have to be there in time for a
meeting, I have to make sure that I would get there in time for that.

It is my hope that the government and rail companies will see the benefit of
improving rail travel...and the profitability of increased ridership because
of problems with the airlines and the cost of gas...and will make
improvements. I'm really NOT looking forward to my trip next week!
