Okay, I'm finally back and recovered enough to
move my fingers.

It was a very long, very hot weekend. During the
tournament on Saturday the heat index hovered
around 105 F. Considering I made it to the 8th round
in the tournament, it made for a long hot day.

Luckily, the ceremony itself was up in the large,
air-conditioned hall. A mundanity I didn't mind in the
least.

Although I wanted to surprise people with my spiffy
garb I just couldn't resist showing off my "wedding
dress", new Laurel medallion and cloak. They were all
just too gorgeous not to display.

The ceremony was in morning court, much to the dismay
of several people who thought it was in the EVENING court.
And court was rather early so there weren't a ton of people
but it was a decent sized crowd anyway. I haven't been
nervous about the ceremony at all. I've been too occupied
with getting all the stuff together and planning the reception
and what to bring to feed the camp. But when they called
the Order of the Laurel up I started to get butterflies. They
didn't settle down until an hour after the deed was done.

The Order was called up and I processed in. My squires
carried my banners in front of the herald who read the
following:
"Unto Their Stellar Majesties Aaron and Vanessa does Gunthar Jonsson,
candidate to the Order of the Laurel come.
Know him by his arms: “Purpure, a Maltese cross, in chief two
escallops argent.”

A poor pig farmer who went to war and tournament to fight for right,
truth, and justice. He brought victory to his soldiers by prowess
upon the field and though he has attained the highest ranks and is a

by His Majesty Aaron II and by His Majesty Romanius, he has never
forgotten the importance of friendship, fellowship and a full belly.

Your Majesties, His Excellency, Count Sir Gunthar Jonsson, Candidate
to the Order of the Laurel."

The medallion was carried in on a pillow by the craftsman, HL Amalia,
and
the cloak was also brought. My Household preceeded me.

There was the usual commentary and some wonderful speeches that I
remember
very little of. I do remember Duke Miguel (speaking as the Knight) going
on just a wee bit long and his story about me rendering my own sweat
down for the salt to season a feast may have stretched the truth a bit.

Master Modius von Mergentheim took a minute before he came forward
when the Pelican was called for because he thought he was speaking as
my Lion. So the speech was a combination of my service and personna.

Master Robin of Gilwell spoke as my Lion. I've decided that it
may be a bad idea to have a bunch of bards speak for you in
your ceremony. It gets a bit long.
But he was magnificient.

I had two Ladies of the Rose speak for me. Duchess Conal and Countess
Sara. The speech I remember the most was from Sara, who was my
Queen and Lady for over seven years. Sara cannot speak in public
without crying and making everyone else cry. Hers was emotional and
loving and wonderful.

I thought all of the speeches were over but His Majesty, Aaron,
spoke for me as well. It was a very gracious touch and very
humbling to me.

The cloak and medallion were placed upon my shoulders and a
wreath was called for but I'd requested to not have one. Oops,
small glitch there. His Majesty also considered to give a buffet
to which I allowed he could go ahead. But he declined.
Besides, I'm already a Knight. I was allowed to hit him back!

Then, one last symbol of my elevation was produced. Now, this
takes a bit of a story. Y'see, at Gulf Wars we camped with a
young lady who was very pregnant. Because of this and.....
well, because I'm a bit of a brat. I took to calling her "Easybake".
This somehow got to Aaron's ears. So, I was given one last
gift. Yes, a purple Easybake Oven. Sigh.....

Finally it was over. And I got all the congratulations and hugs.
Everyone cooed over the magnificent outfit, and especially
the coat 'lanie had gifted me with.
Sara created my Laurel scroll and she wasn't sure I'd like
it. It is a little smaller than most Peerage scrolls but was the
same size as the manuscript she copied it from. It's as
gorgeous as anything I've ever seen her do. And she is a
C&I par excellance. It features Elizabeth and me making
a meal and our totem animals all around it. Including her
lion and my boar and even a ferret peeking around one of
the posts. All done in shades of purple. It's awesome!

This has gone on long enough. I'll go into details on the
reception later. Yes, pictures will be posted when I get them.

Yers,

Count Gunthar Jonsson
Order of the Laurel
