Actually, there's logic to shrimp scampi. It's lazy grammar, but shrimp scampi is a shrimp dish based on the most commonly served preparation for scampi, which has become a reasonably legitimate abbreviation for "scampi broiled in a garlic, white wine and butter sauce". I mean, if you're an English-speaker eating them some other way, you're probably calling them prawns or Dublin Bay prawns anyway, right? 

My teeth are set much more on edge by penne alla vodka. (with the "d" all too often very, almost nonexistently, soft -- vak-ka).
