That is so interesting! I also thought peanuts were from Africa!
Wikipedia has a cool Peruvian artifact of a peanut dating from 300AD.

The peanut (Arachis hypogaea) originates in South America, primarily in
Brazil. The Portuguese introduced it into Africa in the 16th Century
and it appears to have been later introduced into North America via the
slave trade.
