Ten years ago I'd have said that The Evil Molly O'Neill, one-time NYT
food editor, engaged in foodie insider trading by reporting on a
nonexistent trend in order to establish it. After all, she is the
sister of The Evil Paul O'Neill, former New York Yankee, so obviously
there's nothing to which she would not stoop ;-).

[Here we go, let me try it Lyndon Larouche style: "The demented she-
devil Molly O'Neill... in collusion with the monstrous Rachel Ray and
the rapacious succubus... Martha Stewart... <pause while drinking
water, eyes bugging out> as de facto members of the Trilateral Kitchen
Brigade, ceaselessly vigilant in their attempts to systematically
undermine the culinary values and traditions of the Western World...
under the tutelage of that most black-hearted fiend of the 21st-
century culinary landscape... Robert... Flay!"]

Actually, I think we're going to see a resurgence of All Things Maine
this summer, and lobster rolls and Whoopie Pies (if only by adoption,
it's become sort of the Maine State Dessert) are going to be
considered chic.
