A lot depends on what your sites are like. If you are camping (even only 
for a weekend) on ground that has all the charm of a gravel parking lot 
with a few prickly bushes around the edge, and are on the edge of the 
triangle that marks the highest incidence of sun related skin cancer in 
the country you take a lot of stuff. Carpets, shade pavillions, water, 
chairs, food chests, clothes layers to deal with 95 days and 40 degree 
nights, as much for ambiance as comfort. We'll drive 600 miles for a 
weekend event; if it's only one day it's only fighter practice.
