D'vorah is the most direct transliteration I'm comfortable with using. It takes the emphasis away from the shvah (schwa?) which is often represented by the E and then given primary syllabic emphasis in the English speaking world, for one thing; for another, it gives the correct sound to what, in Hebrew, is the second letter, the letter Bet, which is often rendered as B (the Bet can be a B sound or a V sound, but in this name it's a V).

Thank you for that, but yes, I've seen the Gabriel Academy site. Every time I mention playing a non-European Jew, in fact, I get a plethora of emails about it. The chief source of information on those names is the geniza at Cairo -- which contained 175 women's names, covering 200 women, all of them Cairo residents during a specific, short time period. It's a good example of the names that were popular in Cairo within that time period, but it's by no means exhaustive, and I didn't want to restrict myself to such a tiny segment of the Jewish population in the entire Islamic world.
