In one of the scenes of the 10th century Japanese Ochikubo monogatari mention is
made of fruits and of mochi, sort of a cake of roasted rice (or whatever) which
seems to have played a certain role in wedding ceremonies.

Two questions:

1 What do we know about mochi and its use?

2 Is there more about food and cookery in pieces of literature like the Ochikubo
monogatari?
