What varieties of period apples were you thinking of with those
characteristics?

James Prescott suggests:

>Braeburn. Royal Gala.

Why? They are both tasty apples, but why do you think they are
similar to period varieties in general or period pippins in
particular?

What do we know about period applies, other than the particular
varieties that are still available? Do they have any consistent
pattern?
